HELPING CONSTRUCTION TO BREAK NEW GROUND

From One Wall Street to LAX Midfield Satellite Concourse, the London market has long supported the US construction industry; currently covering the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel expansion which spans 9.9 miles and includes 14,000 ft of new marine bridges.

While leading contractors work to build 50 ft deeper than the existing 7,500 ft long immersed steel tubes that carry traffic beneath one of the nation’s business harbors, they can feel safe in the knowledge that the expertise and resource of the London Market is supporting them. In fact, more than half of the top 50 architectural and engineering design firms in the US look to London for their business insurance.

From public and private infrastructure, to power, renewable energy, real estate, onshore energy and mining, Alesco works with US brokers and their clients to provide them with a comprehensive risk management program across the construction project life cycle; from conception, financing and development, through to successful operational completion.

The depth of our client offering to construction companies is enhanced by our unique construction casualty expertise, with the ability to access first-class capacity in London and Bermuda to deliver solutions for US brokers that work with contractors, major projects and homebuilders.

Current geopolitical pressures mean that construction projects face some of their greatest challenges through schedule delays and the need of extensions in their construction insurance programs.

Given the potential for economic uncertainty, domestic insurers are looking to reduce their exposures rapidly. At Alesco, we recognize the potential problems this may cause US brokers when trying to arrange extensions for clients’ builders’ risk policies.

To combat this, we have put together a union of ‘A’-rated* carriers to provide a solution to replace insurers that are unable to extend.

Fundamentals of the product:

• Replacement Capacity Solution

• 'A'-Rated* Security

• A commitment from carriers to the end of the project term (including further extensions)

• Follow Form (but may be subject to current market condition)

• No Excluded Project Type

Alesco’s Environmental team has some of the most highly regarded environmental insurance specialists in the market. We work with US brokers to provide specialist advice and insurance policies to help protect construction businesses against potential pollution and contamination liabilities.

The team has significant experience in negotiating broad environmental insurance policies, which help to fill the significant gaps in pollution liability coverage that occur under many existing insurance programs, in order to reduce our clients’ exposure to uninsured losses.

We develop bespoke construction insurance policies covering pollution and contaminated land liabilities (legal and contractual) for brownfield redevelopment projects, business and property transactions, operational businesses, real estate portfolios and business-wide or project-specific contractors’ operations. We also provide cover for transport and infrastructure PFI/PPP projects, waste management (especially energy from waste facilities), manufacturing, logistics and public sector and education organizations.

We pursue innovation and have been at the forefront of developing coverage for large-scale brownfield developments, major infrastructure projects, substantial petrol station portfolios, high-value transactions and multinational environmental liability insurance programs.

As the number of major infrastructure projects around the world continues to climb the global construction workforce is engaged with dangerous work in some of the most volatile areas of the planet.

In addition to the on-site risks that keep the sector at the top for work-related injuries and fatalities, civil commotion; terrorism; natural disasters; and infectious disease further compound the risks faced by staff in this sector.

Staff members who are not faced with these risks on home soil, can often be unprepared when working abroad. It is therefore an employer’s responsibility to implement a comprehensive overseas risk management strategy.

Alesco has extensive experience supporting US brokers and their construction clients, who are sending their staff overseas to high risk territories where traditional personal accident and business travel insurance policies often do not provide appropriate cover.
